Review: Red Letter Days
25 Nov 02 @ 2:12 pm

Not too long ago, I mentioned about the new Wallflowers album, Red Letter Days. Being a fan since Bringing Down the Horses, I quickly snapped up this album from the record store and was (I admit!) dissapointed with the album initially. The lead single When You're on Top is not actually a killer-single like what One Headlight was. It sounded too draggy in a sense to me. Furthermore, the whole album actually had 'too many' instruments .... not clear cut sounding like what the previous albums were. At least in the other album, you can actually hear each instrument from another. I felt that the instruments to Red Letter Days blended in too much together.

Well, I think you should ignore what I said above, cause after a few more listens... I found the album very exciting. Beautiful lyrics ... Jakod Dylan style! Feels Like Summer Again is such a beautiful song. The bonus track Empire Of My Mind is just plainly the icing on top of the cake. Well, there's no point really to mention the other tracks but in conclusion, if you're a Wallflower's fan ... you won't be dissapointed!

Well, one should read this article I found recently. It's basically about the Wallflowers, their thoughts before they released Bringing Down the Horses. Like many other bands, they never expected to sail pass the million mark in terms of records sales ... but it did.

As Jakod Dylan says here.....
"When I made that record, I was concerned with getting 12 more songs on a CD and doing a little better, or getting further, than I had the time before," Dylan said, further explaining his mindset heading into that album. "My idea was not to conquer the world. It never has been. I want to achieve more each time I do these things than I had last time. And that doesn't necessarily mean sales or exposure. I was interested in making a much more complete record last time around than I had on my first record."

The Chambers of Secrets..
23 Nov 02 @ 1:17 pm

Wow.... the new Harry Potter movie was a really long movie ... almost 3 hours and was a delight compared to the first one (the Sorcerer's Stone). I prefer this one cause it was darker and the acting was much better. At times one still finds that Hermione Granger is a teeny weeny bit annoying but so much more better now. Hopefully she will get better with the next movie.

So what's next then? Well, the new Bond film, Die Another Day and Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers

Pearl Jam on the Letterman show..
19 Nov 02 @ 5:32 pm

I don't really watch David Letterman .... but I was lucky enough to stay tuned to the TV screen when Letterman announced that Pearl Jam were the guest! :) Well ... they rocked ... even though I couldn't figure out the tune to the song. That really didn't matter cause I prefer songs that are not so catchy! Anyways ... they played Save You from the new album, Riot Act. Again ... all the members of the band have short hair now ... I guess that's part of the ageing process ... ;-)

Incidentally, Kurt Cobain's diary simply entitled Journals is out now ... Newsweek ran a cover story on the diary. You can read what CNN has to say about it too... If I'm not mistaken, there was some ill feelings which Cobain had against Pearl Jam. Not really sure what the whole story if all about there though.

Another Riot Act review...

Now this is an excellent review of Riot Act. Head over there to see what I mean..

Zwan signs with Reprise Records
15 Nov 02 @ 1:25 pm

I've mentioned about the new band called Zwan some time ago in which the former Smashing Pumpkins front man .. Billy Corgan fronts.

Looks like we're gonna hear more about Zwan soon as they just signed a record deal with Reprise Records. The lead single is gonna be Honestly. No sign of this single of Kazaa yet ... :) However I did manage to get the song entitled Sorrow, a live performance and I'm not really sure where it was recorded from. Sounds good though...

Oh yeah .. the official site .. can be found here..

Chris Cornell talks ..

Chris Cornell whom I mentioned some time ago talks about Audioslave here and the politics that went on.

Red Letter Days
12 Nov 02 @ 4:51 pm

I seemed to have lost track with this band -- The Wallflowers. Two magnificent albums under their belt ... Bringing Down the Horses and Breach. I think they have a debut album before BDTH but can't remember the name to it off hand. Breach was great but maybe not as solid as BDTH. Life a friend said ... Breach didn't have a great catchy single like One Headlight so I guess that's why the album bombed commercially.

What's surprising is that they have a new album coming out ... titled Red Letter Days. I can't believe I missed it ... now have to head to the music store to look for the CD!!

PS ... Just found out that their debut album was just simply called The Wallflowers.

Join the fight!
12 Nov 02 @ 4:17 pm

Rather interesting website called GoogleFight (nothing to do with Google mind you!). Basically, just input two different words of the opposite nature in this page and we can see which phrase is more popular from the other. Kinda dissapointed when I got the results to Pearl Jam vsd Nirvana .... :( Ah well .. that's life I guess.....

More Riot Act reviews..
11 Nov 02 @ 2:29 pm

I've found some more reviews of the new Pearl Jam album. Just realized that most of them don't think much about Riot Act ... some giving a rating as low as 2 stars! :( Furthermore, one article even mentioned that album sales have dwindled down tremendously since their debut Ten was released (Ten: 8.9 million copies; Binaural: 795,000). Maybe it's because Pearl Jam have shunned themselves from the limelight ... releasing limited videos ... the last one being Do The Evolution (from Yield) etc. Nevertheless ... I'll still pick the album up...

What about the rest of ya? Still believe in PJ's music?

Here are those reviews for ya...

DareDevil trailer it out!
09 Nov 02 @ 11:34 am

The new Ben Affleck movie .... based on a Marvel Comic character of the same name can be found here. I'm unable to view it as the connection is pretty slow right now, but you can give it a try. You do need Apple's Quicktime though first.

Alternative OS poll...
08 Nov 02 @ 4:53 pm

If you use different OS (Operating System) or using Windows with a different shell ... you are most welcome to participate in this online poll. I think it's gonna be closed soon so you better hurry up and vote in.

Speaking of shells ... I used to use pureLS on my WindowsOS.

Pearl Jam interview ...
08 Nov 02 @ 4:10 pm

..... But the band's musical reaction to its success was just as memorable: It produced three remarkably strong albums—1993's Vs., 1994's Vitalogy, and 1996's No Code—which proved more visceral and adventurous than Ten.

... 1998's Yield and 2000's Binaural were considerably more relaxed (and less interesting), and those albums found audiences organically, as the band wished

What better way to describe those albums .... :) Pearl Jam have been very consistent since Ten was released. To tell you the truth, I hardly listen to the first album ... actually leaning more towards the later album ... my favorite would be Vitalogy ...Read the interview here ...

Hey ... Eddie Vedder got a hair cut! LOL .....

Mozilla better than IE?
07 Nov 02 @ 11:38 am

Came across this article over CNet.com .... about a chap who came up with 101 reasons what the Mozilla browser can do but Microsoft's IE cannot!! :) But still, it won't be enough to convert users from IE to Mozilla. I don't use the IE interface really ... what I use is an app called MyIE2 ... which uses the core IE engine but with alot of other nifty features to it ... basically a free multi-tabbed browser. I used to fiddle around with Crazy Browser but stopped using it when I found that MyIE2 had alot of other added features compared to Crazy Browser.

New reviews..
06 Nov 02 @ 4:57 pm

These are all taken from Rolling Stone Magazine. Check out the reviews to the debut album by Audioslave (Audioslave) ... and new albums for Pearl Jam (Riot Act) and Nirvana (Nirvana).

Sad to say that Riot Act got a 3-Star review .. *sniff*. But glad to see that the fans think otherwise. I really can't comment about the album as I haven't got my copy yet .... just waiting ... and waiting and waiting ...
